Description
Released on January 1, 1932, this stamp features the adorable baby Harp Seal, a symbol of Newfoundland's rich fishing and sealing history. The seal on this stamp still has its long, white coat. The woolly white fur absorbs sunlight and traps heat to keep the seal warm. Once the pup starts gaining blubber it will molt its white coat and by the time the seal has reached adulthood, it will have light gray fur with a curved black patch on its back that resembles a harp, giving the seal its name.
